Stories for Single Women Deeper Intimacy by Kortnay R. Woods (Kortnay's bio) Send this page to a friend Ayo watched as a squirrel jump from one tree limb to another from her family room window. Smiling, she moved forward in the sofa, her brown eyes following the ballet performed by a gray, furry dancer on a stage of black and green trees. Bump! A well-worn Bible fell from her lap onto the floor. Loosing sight of the furry dancer she gently reached to retrieve the item that held the Words of her most precious friend. A page with a map of Jerusalem fluttered out, its edges bent and soft with use. Oh how much I wish I could go there Lord, she prayed. Standing, she placed the Bible on the couch and walked toward a white bookcase. Removing an old atlas of Asia and the Middle East, Ayo opened to the pages that contained maps of Israel and Palestine. Her slender fingers moved gracefully and familiarly over the drawings of the city streets and ancient terrain. Father, I know if I were able to go there, I could be even closer to you and I would understand more about who you are. With yearning she studied the maps that she had looked at many times before. Sighing, she placed the atlas on her coffee table and retrieved her Bible. Opening her Bible to the book of James, she began to read chapter four. Raising her head minutes later, she looked out of the window again. The ballet of the squirrels was over, but the stage was beautiful. Ayo heard the songs of different birds, and a plane flying overhead. Dark green leaves rustled on swaying limbs that released a symphony of peace. Not a cloud was in the sky and the sun provided a warm, shimmering light that made the grass resemble a plush carpet of multiple shades of green. Closing her eyes she prayed. Oh Father, thank you. I do not need to go to Jerusalem to know you more deeply. Thank you for speaking to me here and drawing me close to you in this way. She then continued to read. When we seek and listen for His still voice, He draws us into a more intimate relationship with Him.
