GloryA Weekly Word by J. Ross Greer of The Place of Grace Ministries (about the ministry) [Note: If you'd like to read more from J. Ross Greer, be sure to subscribe to his daily e-mail list A Word For The Church.] 18For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God. 20For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope 21that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. 23And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body. 24For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees? 25But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it. The struggle between the Spirit and the flesh takes on an eternal perspective. Having to live within a body that still has desires for the things of this world causes us to long all the more for our eternal home and glorified bodies. We have a definite assurance and expectation of a time when our adoption will be complete. We will see the Father who purchased us and the Son who paid the price. Our bodies will be fully redeemed. The corruptible will put on incorruption. We will no longer have any knowledge of sin, or live any longer in its presence. For now then, we suffer. Our bodies grow old and tired. Our flesh longs for the old ways, while we groan for complete redemption. What will put an end to this constant struggle? Our passing from death unto life, or the catching way of Christ's body. Until then, we will suffer. However, in comparison to the glory of God that will be revealed in us, our sufferings are only light and temporary. Let us persevere, then, with our eyes fixed on the hope and true reality that has been set before us.
