Worship Under FireTrue Worship by J. Ross Greer of The Place of Grace Ministries (about the ministry) [Note: If you'd like to read more from J. Ross Greer, be sure to subscribe to his daily e-mail list A Word For The Church.] 16Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego replied to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer concerning this matter. 17"If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. 18"But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up." 28Nebuchadnezzar responded and said, "Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego, who has sent His angel and delivered His servants who put their trust in Him, violating the king's command, and yielded up their bodies so as not to serve or worship any god except their own God. It is easy to worship God sitting in our comfortable pews, in the midst of our beautifully decorated edifices. Can you, however, maintain your devotion to and worship of the one and only true God when your life is on the line, or even when your faith and beliefs are being challenged? The names of the three Hebrews (Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah) were changed to reflect the worship of Baal. Regardless of their pagan names, they were still known as servants of the Most High God. Are you known as one who identifies with the world or with Christ? The call today is for religious tolerance. We should respect the beliefs of others. While it is absolutely true that no one should be persecuted because they hold to a particular faith, Christians still have the mandate to declare that Jesus Christ in the one and only way to Heaven, and that all other so-called roads lead to Hell, eternal damnation, and separation from God. There is only one God to be worshiped, and His name is not Allah. Was Jesus tolerant of the differing views of the scribes and Pharisees? Look at all the woes He pronounces upon them in Matthew 23. In verse 27, Jesus declares (not very tolerantly) that they are hypocrites and full of dead men's bones. In verse 33, He characterizes them as a brood of vipers and declares that they will not escape the sentence of Hell. Do you wonder what Jesus would say about Islam? Be assured that our worship will also be tested. Could the threat of death, or even the loss of a job and lifestyle, cause you to deny the God you serve?
