New SongTrue Worship by J. Ross Greer of The Place of Grace Ministries (about the ministry) [Note: If you'd like to read more from J. Ross Greer, be sure to subscribe to his daily e-mail list A Word For The Church.] 1Sing for joy in the LORD, O you righteous ones; Praise is becoming to the upright. 2Give thanks to the LORD with the lyre; Sing praises to Him with a harp of ten strings. 3Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy. 4For the word of the LORD is upright, And all His work is done in faithfulness. 1I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me and heard my cry. 2He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay, And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm. 3He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear And will trust in the LORD. 1O sing to the LORD a new song, For He has done wonderful things, His right hand and His holy arm have gained the victory for Him. 2The LORD has made known His salvation; He has revealed His righteousness in the sight of the nations. 3He has remembered His lovingkindness and His faithfulness to the house of Israel; All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. We are encouraged, yes even commanded to sing new songs unto the LORD. The character of God never changes, but as our understanding of our Father grows, we are to find new words with which to praise. God purpose to redeem mankind will never be altered, but the ways in which He accomplishes His work are as infinite as He is. Therefore, there should never be an end to the new songs of worship that come from our hearts What of the old songs? Some of our hymns transcend generations because of the rich truth contained within them. However, we need to repackage them with current music to keep them from becoming too familiar, because we tend to tune out the truth when we continue to hear it the same way. Unfortunately, we hang on to most of the music from prior generations because of the style or an emotional attachment. True worship is not based in a style, nor does it find its root in our emotions. Much of the music from the 1950's and forward is ripe with false doctrine. Therefore, it was not worship then, and it is not worship now. God is not pleased when what we call worship contains even the slightest error. God is jealous of His worship and demands that it declare truth about who He is and what He does. God is worthy of our best, highest, and newest in worship.
