ReverenceTrue Worship by J. Ross Greer of The Place of Grace Ministries (about the ministry) [Note: If you'd like to read more from J. Ross Greer, be sure to subscribe to his daily e-mail list A Word For The Church.] 1Why are the nations in an uproar And the peoples devising a vain thing? 2The kings of the earth take their stand And the rulers take counsel together Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, 3"Let us tear their fetters apart And cast away their cords from us!" 4He who sits in the heavens laughs, The Lord scoffs at them. 5Then He will speak to them in His anger And terrify them in His fury, saying, 6"But as for Me, I have installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain." 7"I will surely tell of the decree of the LORD: He said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. 8'Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, And the very ends of the earth as Your possession. 9'You shall break them with a rod of iron, You shall shatter them like earthenware.'" 10Now therefore, O kings, show discernment; Take warning, O judges of the earth. 11Worship the LORD with reverence And rejoice with trembling. 12Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way, For His wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him! Do we understand to whom our worship is directed, or to whom it is to be directed? The LORD God Almighty, the Creator of the universe, the One who is Sovereign over all people and events is the only One who is worthy of our worship. Then, do we comprehend the attitude with which we are to approach our high and holy Father? Are we bowing before Him with the reverence and awe that He deserves? There is no question that God loves us. We are eternally placed in Jesus Christ, and are thereby, recipients of the same love that Son receives from the Father. However, we must not view our relationship to God as that of an earthly Father to his children. God is still God. To have the proper reverence of God, we must reflect on who He is. We cannot fully comprehend His majesty, but we must dwell upon His infinite and perfect character. It is the God we worship who, in the same nanosecond of time, keeps the cosmos in perfect alignment while attending to the needs of the tiniest sparrow. We can certainly enter the Father's presence with thanksgiving and joy, but we must approach His throne with the respect that He is due. We cannot enter into worship in a light-hearted, carefree manner.
