Tired? Wondering why the road sometimes gets so rocky? Questioning your decision to go down this road in the first place? Well, you're not alone!
When we made the decision to reach out our hand to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, we didn't receive the promise of a trouble free life - we received the promise of an Eternal Life of praising God in Heaven. This promise will not remove our troubles, but the understanding of this promise should give us peace as we begin to view our troubles with new eyes.
God's Word gives us encouragement to consider our life with an eternal perspective. This means we begin to shift our focus from life in terms of months, years, or even decades, to life in terms of eternity. As we make this shift, the significance of our current trouble begins to fade. "For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." (2 Corinthians 4:18).
Jesus saw these same struggles in His disciples. He wanted them to live a life of peace and contentment, but He also knew they would face many difficulties. After a night of teaching, Jesus gave His disciples these words of encouragement:
John 16:33 "I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
We may not know the details of the next few years, but we know who wins the fight. As we climb into the ring day after day, we may become weary and even lose a few rounds - but the outcome of the battle has already been determined. There may be times when we truly desire to throw in the towel and quit, but let's never forget that through our risen Lord, we have the final victory.
