The Father's Will
by Steve Troxel (Steve's bio)

[Note: If you'd like to read more from Steve, be sure to visit God's Daily Word.]

The Kingdom of Heaven is open only to those who truly believe in the sacrifice of Jesus as payment for our sins. The narrow road that leads to eternal life does not evaluate our life in terms of good deeds or amount of sin - it simply turns away those who are unknown to Jesus.

Matthew 7:21-23
"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from Me, you evildoers!'"'

Does this mean there are people who go to church every week and read their bible every day who will not enter Heaven? Does this mean there are some Sunday School Teachers and even some Preachers who will be cast aside on the day of judgement? The sad reality is that this is exactly what Jesus is saying.

If these "Men and Women of God" will not enter Heaven, who will? "Only he who does the will of My Father." And Jesus tells us exactly how to do His Father's will. "For My Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day." (John 6:40).

All the wonderful things we do in the name of Jesus count absolutely nothing toward allowing us into Heaven. True believers will desire to obediently serve, and God will definitely use ministry opportunities to mature us and draw us closer - but entrance through the gate of eternal life is based ONLY on belief.

We must spread this message throughout the world! "How can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?" (Romans 10:14). If the world does not hear the message, they cannot be saved! The gospel message is that belief in Jesus is both necessary and sufficient for our Salvation - for this is the Father's will!
