Take It Back, It's Yours:
Resisting and Drawing

by Kenn Westenbroek (Kenn's bio)

So often we forget what we just learned. I felt to touch on the area of prayer again this time. In the last article there was a push to abide in the secret place. I want us to focus for a few minutes on what we are to do while abiding.

God longs to commune with us. His desire is for a relationship with us. He walked with Adam and Eve in the garden. Enoch was such a friend to him and the communion between them was so intense that God couldn't take it any more not being with him and took him from the earth.

Have you been placing yourself into that position? Into a position where God Almighty himself desires to take you. I want to be there. This writer is pressing and pressing the throne room of God. I need to be near Him. I have to because if I don't then I will begin to look to the world and to others. I will begin a journey away from Him and not close to Him. Every single day I need a fresh word from Him. I need have a now word, a word that so penetrates me that I can't remember what life was without it.

God will come to you in this way but you need to draw near to Him. His word says in James 4:7-8..……." 7Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.". We have already talked about submitting and going to the secret place. The verse says also to "resist" the devil and he will flee. Have you ever been in a time of prayer and things that shouldn't be in your mind suddenly pop in? Things like………"Where did I leave me black dress shoes?"…….."I wonder if we have to work overtime Saturday?"………"I sure wish the neighbor would mow his lawn right now"…………"That waitress at the restaurant was really cute"………"I wonder if she's married?"…………."Did the kids let the dog out?"…………..etc…..etc.

I know that none of these things have made their way into your head!!! You have had it happen just like me. You set out to pray and to get into the presence of God and then BAM!!!!!!!!!!!!! There's those stupid thoughts. The bible says to resist then. Resist and resist and then resist some more. You have a promise……the devil will flee. But that isn't all that needs to happen. The next verse says that you must also "Draw nigh" to God. First resist so that the devil is out of the picture and then draw nigh. Then God can be your whole focus and the communion begins. He promises to draw nigh to you. O what a wonderful place this is. A place that cannot be compared to any other that I have experienced. A place of safety, a place of joy, a place of love, a place of peace. I challenge you to set out for the next few days or even the next few weeks and apply these verses to your life. Apply them with the authority you have in Jesus. And watch your communion with God accelerate to a new level. You never know??????? Some day you may get to a place that God will just take you away………
