Alan Seeger Eighty-eight keys - One piano

Piano The piano, foundation of most western music, has 88 individual keys, each of which produces a distinct, particular pitch.

Human musicians play the instrument by depressing the keys in various combinations to produce an endless variety of music.

Each musician has a distinctive way of performing – what we call "style." Music would not be nearly as interesting if every performer played identically.

Pianists use eighty-eight keys, guitarists have six strings, drummers seem to have as many drums as they can get hold of. Someone once said, "Variety is the spice of life."

If that's true of life, then it seems also to be true of music. There is a wide variety of music in this world; everything from jazz to metal, from polka to punk rock.

All over the world, a seemingly endless variety of music and musicians, and a large proportion of their music utilizes the piano. Wouldn't that music be boring if a piano had only a single key, limited to playing one note?

Now, the Church is God's great instrument, and he uses it to produce beautiful music (both figuratively and literally) to draw the world to Himself. Wouldn't it be boring if every church and every member within those churches were all exactly the same?

One Lord – One Faith – One Baptism – One God and Father of us all – One Savior who was crucified for our sins – One Holy Spirit making us one Bride, without spot or wrinkle.
