Running A.M.O.K.:The Art of (Joyful) Noise by Dave Weiss (Dave's bio) Send this page to a friend Make a joyful noise unto the Lord. You know usually I write these columns about excellence in the arts and not being pretty good for a Christian. But today I want to address something a little different, kind of the flip side if you will. I'm talking about singing in worship. So many people have this aversion to singing. Many people will not sing in church at all because they are worried how it will sound to the people around them. News flash, you're not singing for them. You're singing for God and He wants to hear from you. Remember we worship for an audience of One and we were created to Worship Him. To skip out on worshipping Him with everything we have is to miss a big part of our purpose in life. Now I know singing is not the only way we can worship but let's face it, you may not sing in church, but in your car, when you think no one is listening, you're singing now aren't you? I thought so. I remember a day not so long ago when I was in my car singing my heart out to one of my favorite bands, when I took a minute to think about what I was singing. This particular song questioned God's very existence. I haven't listened to them since. Why add this into the mix? Because God deserves our praise. Too often we are ready to sing the praises of everything but Him. Let me let you in on a little secret. God doesn't care what you sound like when you praise Him. He knows the gifts He gave you and whether or not singing is one of them, He wants to hear you. He did, after all make the voice He gave you and if you're doing your best, well let's just say that's music to His ears. He's your heavenly Father, you are His child. Think about when the children sing in your church. Are they always on key, perfect pitch, professional in presentation? No, of course not. But they're singing their little hearts out and it brings you joy, doesn't it? It's the same way when you sing your praises to God. Next time the opportunity comes to sing His praises, do it for all your worth. You're not singing for the mezzo soprano or operatic tenor next to you, you're singing for your loving Father. Make that joyful noise, He is worthy of ALL your praise.
