Some people think that men shouldn't cry. They feel men who cry show weakness.
I'm not sure where such a notion came from, but I don't believe it. Real men cry.
How do I know? Because Jesus wept.
The King of kings and Lord of lords shed tears. Jesus, who conquered death, rose from the grave and defeated the devil, cried.
When Lazarus still lay in the tomb, his sisters and other mourners wept. Scripture tells us to weep with them that weep. So Jesus wept with them. He sympathized with their sorrow, even though he knew he would soon turn their sorrow to joy.
If Jesus can weep, so can I.
Notice that although we only see this one occasion of Jesus weeping, I'm sure he wept on other occasions as well. I picture Jesus weeping when he said, "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!"
I picture Jesus weeping for a fallen people that would not turn to him.
Real men cry.
Real men weep with those that sorrow, showing them sympathy in a time of need. They lend a shoulder to a friend when a spouse or mother dies. They show strength by shedding tears of compassion.
Real men cry.
Real men weep when they see loved ones fall into sin. They shed tears in their prayer closet as they ask God to bring their loved ones back to the truth.
Real men cry.
Real men weep for millions of innocent babies needlessly murdered in abortion clinics. They shed tears for teenagers shot in high schools.
Real men cry. Do you?
