In His Presence by Kristenea M. LaVelle (Kristenea's bio) There is no doubt that this verse from John paints a vivid picture of a very touching scene: a woman, tenderly lingering at the feet of her Savior. Mary had come to Jesus that day clothed in humility and love, bearing perhaps her most costly possession. She lavished it upon Jesus, sparing nothing and holding back none for herself, but freely giving all she had, and then she lingered in His awesome presence. When she finally walked away, the sweet smell of the meeting lingered around her and saturated the entire dwelling. Had a stranger wandered in at that moment, it would have been apparent to him that she had been with Jesus, for she radiated the same sweet aroma as the Savior. Imagine for a moment that you were Mary on that day. How would you have responded to Jesus as he sat at your table? Would you have rushed about the house making sure everything was in its place, or would you have taken the time to linger at the feet of your beloved Savior? Our souls were created to engage in intimate communion with God. It is during these intimate times with God that the greatest and most profound transformations are accomplished within our being. This special time with God brings about the new birth in our lives as we are being transformed from glory to glory. We change, grow and mature while abundant life fills our heart and soul, often overflowing to the others around us. Take a moment to evaluate your relationship with God. Do you take the time to linger at the feet of the Savior, lavishing Him with your most costly possession, (your entire being)? Do you freely give Him all of yourself, reserving or concealing nothing? Do you long for and seek that intimate time with Him and humbly yield to the changes that He wants to bring about in your heart? It is important that we continually challenge ourselves to reach for new heights with God. Abide in His sweet presence and allow Him to transform you into a new likeness and give you a new vision of abundant living. It quickly becomes apparent to all that you have lingered in the presence of the Savior.
