"Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? And in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." Matthew 7:22-23

Nothing is as important in our daily lives as our ongoing relationship with our Creator. Jesus should be the driving factor behind everything we say and do, and the building block for our relationships with others. When our relationship with Jesus is right, everything else is right. When that relationship begins to suffer, other relationships in our life also begin to suffer. The two are intertwined, and often reflect one upon the other.

One important aspect about maintaining any relationship is quality time. Spending time with anyone, requires an investment of yourself. You must give something of yourself to that individual and that becomes the building blocks of the relationship.

In order to KNOW someone, you must invest yourself into getting to know them. Spending quality time allows for the relationship to grow and mature. The same is true with Jesus. He wants you to invest quality, intimate time into getting to know Him. We must do this to maintain the quality of our relationship with God and to grow and mature in our Christian walk.

10 questions we should ask Jesus about our relationship with Him:

  1. What can I do to bring honor and glory to Your name?
  2. What can I do to understand and "know" You better?
  3. What attribute would you like me to develop?
  4. What do I need to do to walk in complete surrender to You?
  5. What do I need to do to walk in complete obedience to You?
  6. What achievement in my life would bring You the greatest joy?
  7. What would indicate to You that I desire to be more like You (Christ-like)?
  8. What can I do to be more used of You in the future?
  9. What can I do to enrich my relationship with You?
  10. What things in my life draw my focus away from You?

As you pose these questions, prepare your heart to receive from the Lord specific instruction and guidance in these areas. Perhaps you can think of other questions that fit your particular situation or circumstances. In any case, these questions will help you to evaluate the current state of your relationship with Jesus and provide insight into future growth and maturity.
