Chaste Conversation
by Kristenea M. LaVelle (Kristenea's bio)

Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. 1 Peter 3:1-2

Communication is a vital part of our human existence. From the first day of life communication plays an important role in developing and shaping our relationships. The words we use become a powerful vehicle in delivering our attitudes, thoughts and emotions to the people around us. Our conversation directly effects the way we connect with others. With our words we can build strong relationships and a positive atmosphere, or we can slander good character and sour the very air we breathe. For this reason, it is imperative that we become aware of the words that flow freely from our lips into the hearts of others.

Even our relationship with God centers around effective communication. Prayer, praise and worship are ways that we connect with our Creator. Any breakdown in this communication results in difficulties in the relationship that can hinder normal growth and development. The same thing applies to our relationships with others. It is important to avoid conversation that centers around "idle" chatter or gossip, which only serves to divide people and destroy relationships. Instead, hold to a policy of chaste conversation, which centers on those things that are pure, clean and uncorrupted.

Clearly, the words we speak are powerful to build or destroy, and the Bible says we will be held accountable for how we use them. "But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgement. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned." Use your words wisely to build-up and exhort others in Christ and even to those who do not know the Lord. Your chaste conversation may be the very thing that wins them over!
