"Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me." John 15:4
In John 15, the Word explains that our relationship with Jesus is just like that of a vine and its branches and as this picture unfolds, Jesus begins to explain the benefits of "abiding" in His love. This simple act of "abiding" brings about a unique state in the life of a believer that directly influences our relationship with God and with each other.
"If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you."
(John15:7) Prayer becomes very powerful when you take up residence in the Spirit of God, and as you keep in step with the Spirit, your prayers will be answered and God is glorified in the process.
"He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples."
(John 15:5,8) A believer enters a state of unsurpassed fruitfulness as he daily abides in the love of Christ, whereby God is again glorified.
"These things I have spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full."
(John 15:11) Abiding in Christ brings about an overflowing joy in the life of a believer. This joy will overflow to others and be a powerful witness to the working of Christ in your life.
"This is my commandment, that ye love one another, as I have loved you."
(John 15:12) This is the key to abiding that brings everything else together. Love one another and obey His commands and you will experience "abiding" as a powerful, life-changing process that will glorify God and bring about victory in your life and walk with Jesus. As an added bonus, abiding helps you to recognize His voice and allows you to become increasingly more intimate with God so that you can grow in the wisdom and knowledge of His ways. Your focus and direction will become clearer as He becomes the central point in your life and you will rise up on the wings of an eagle.
And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
