Are You Thirsty?
by Kristenea M. LaVelle (Kristenea's bio)

"But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw."
John 4:14-15

Have you ever taken the time to notice the gradual change of seasons? From the first crocus peeking through a fine layer of ice, to the sing-song praises of tiny birds filling the budding trees, life is returning. After several months of winter dormancy, slowly but steadily, life inches its way back onto the scene, and suddenly there is a flurry of activity everywhere. Lush green grass replaces mounds of snow and ice and leaves once again clothe naked trees. This is the cycle of life.

As seasons blend from one to another it is interesting to notice the catalyst that enhances this yearly cycle of growth. Water. Water brings life and satisfies thirst, a need common to every plant and creature great and small. Imagine the amount of water needed to bring a tree from its naked winter hibernation into a vibrant display of life. Its easy to see why Spring is the season of rain, for the earth cries out for this refreshing water of life to satisfy the thirst brought by the long winter dormancy.

Often times, our spiritual lives mirror this cycle of life found in nature. Through circumstance or actions, we begin to experience a dormancy in our walk that results in dry times of worship and praise, which serves to hinder our relationship with God instead of enhance it. Just going through the motions doesn't bring life. Living water brings life.

As Christians we need to recognize these dry areas in our spiritual lives and bring about a revival of life through our thirst for Jesus and His Living Word. Just like the Samaritan woman, we must daily go to the wellspring of Living water and satisfy our thirst so that life may be brought forth from the abundance that fills our souls. Then, just like the transformation from winter to spring, vibrant growth will spring up even through perceived layers of snow and ice. If you seek this kind of growth in your relationship with God then you must thirst for the water that will bring vibrant life into your world. Live for Jesus! Thirst for Jesus!
