Christians and Muslims
by Kristenea M. LaVelle (Kristenea's bio) Send this page to a friend In light of the recent terrorist attack on our country, it seems that the church is faced with many questions regarding relationships with people of the Muslim faith. I would like to address this issue now. From God's point of view, there are only two groups of people on the earth, the saved and the unsaved. To God it makes no difference what label society puts on a particular "group" of people. He is concerned with souls and that should be our concern as well. It is easy to miss this point because our flesh likes to keep our vision limited to the here and now where we focus on the physical aspect of our lives and the emotional, grieving aspect of our humanity. But there is something greater at stake in the spiritual world, the souls of mankind. This life we have on earth is merely a single drop of rain in comparison with the eternity that we all face. The question is whether it will be with God through a saving faith in Jesus or the alternative "fire and brimstone". Muslims are no different than any other group of people that do not profess the name of Christ for salvation. They exist in a state of bondage to sin and will carry the guilt of that sin until they find salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. If they do not know they are lost, how will they ever find salvation and be restored into a right relationship with God? The Bible says it is our job, as laborers with God, to show them the Light of Christ. We are required to do this in action, as well as with the Word of God. "Preach the word; be instant in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of they ministry." 2 Timothy 4:2,5 God has commissioned those who are called by His name to deliver a message unto a lost and dying world. We are His messengers of the gospel and to be effective, we must realize that the gospel message is the LOVE of God. If you want to show the love of God to people then give them the gospel message. Jesus is the ultimate gift of God to the world. "yea, woe is unto me if I preach not the gospel!" 1 Corinthians 9:16 The Muslims no doubt are just as shaken by terrorist events as other Americans are, but it is not right to offer peace and agree with them in prayer in the name of love. That is not an act of love, but of spiritual adultery. As Christians we are not to "agree in prayer" with anyone who does not abide in the doctrine of Christ. "If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds." 2 John 10-11. This command is not brought about by the reasoning of man, but it is given by God for protection in regards to spiritual matters. There is a way to deliver the gospel message with love and compassion to the hurting and lost soul. God's Word is powerful to bring comfort and deliverance to the hurting. "And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach and patient, in meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; and that they may recover them selves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive of him at his will." 2 Timothy 2:24-26 In regards to what Jesus would do, we just need to look at the gospel and find the pattern of how Jesus dealt with people. He always spoke directly to the heart of an individual and He always gave them the law of God. He was a beacon of Light that pointed the way to eternity with God, and He was always focused on doing that which would please the Father. "And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him." John 8:29. In short, Jesus preached, rebuked and exhorted those around Him at all times so that they could come into the fullness of the knowledge of God through Him, and that is what we must purpose in our heart to do. Show the love of God through our actions and words.
