The last group of people boarding the plane seemed ordinary enough; in fact I hardly noticed them at all. After everyone was seated, a straggler came on board.

He too seemed ordinary, a clean-cut fellow dressed in blue jeans and a casual shirt. A couple of things made him stand out though. First there were the two, armed, military policemen who accompanied him. Secondly was the fact that he was wearing a full set of shackles. His leg irons were attached to his handcuffs by a short piece of chain that limited his ability to move around quite a bit.

I have no idea what his crime was and the MP's didn't look like friendly types that I wanted to go ask. I'm assuming it must have been something serious to warrant two armed MP's as guards and shackles.

Most people will probably never have the displeasure of moving from place to place under armed guard and chained hand and foot. I'm sure anyone who has been through the experience could testify as to the discomfort involved.

We do often allow ourselves to be shackled in a spiritual and emotional sense. We get bound up in the web of sin. We get shackled by hurt feelings, unforgiveness and bitterness. We get chained in anger, pettiness and apathy. We get roped up in addiction to drugs, alcohol, pornography, and more. We get tied up in feelings of condemnation of others and ourselves. We get locked into patterns of disobedience to God. We get wrapped up in many things that limit our freedom.

In short we become captives to our past and to our present mistakes. When that happens Satan rejoices. You see, he knows something that many Christians don't truly understand, and those that do understand often forget.

We've been set free. We only think we're still shackled.

[Jesus said] "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Luke 4:18-19 NIV

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.
Romans 8:1-2 NIV

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
2 Corinthians 3:17 NIV

The shackles have been unlocked, the chains broken and the price paid in full for your freedom. As a believer you have been set free.

Until next time may you come to understand the freedom given you through the sacrifice of Christ on the cross and live the life of blessing you were meant to live

Be blessed

Kevin

I don't know what has you in chains, perhaps you really are in prison. I do know that Jesus came to set you free. All we need to do is make Him Lord of our lives. Even people who are in physical prisons can be set free in their hearts and spirits through Jesus.

Don't wait, run to Jesus open arms to today and be truly set free.

If you haven't made the decision to accept Christ as Lord, or don't know what I mean when I say this, email me and I'll share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible.
