Instant Message Comings and Goings by Clare Cartagena (Clare's bio) Send this page to a friend PS 56:4 In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me? Kristen was afraid to go to school that morning. Across town Jared and his brother Mark felt the same way. In fact almost everyone who went to Melrose High School worried about spending the day in the building. And why not? Just yesterday police stormed through the hallways making a bust. Their target, a locker which when opened revealed a frightening stash of handguns. After that scene the rumors were flying. Some said a note was also found with a plan to shoot up the cafeteria. Someone else claimed this locker was one of many and there was a secret club of terrorists ready to launch an all out attack. It was no wonder kids were thinking about staying home. These days there are a lot of reasons to consider hiding in your room forever. Gone are the times when breaking out with acne was the worst thing to face in the morning. Every day the news blasts yet another threat to your life. How can you step out your door with any kind of security? There is only one way, the way, the truth and the life, Jesus. Does that sound too simple? Consider this. When God created the earth, He said, "It is good". He intended for life on this planet to be good. No kidding. But of course there was that "Adam and Eve eating the fruit" thing, which changed everything. Everything except that God still considers His creation "good" and still wants friendship with us. That's where Jesus came in. He laid down His life in payment for Adam and Eve's original and our copycat sins so that we could again be with our God. So what does that have to do with walking out your door? If you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, you are a friend of God. And God's friends can count on His promises one of them being Psalm 121:7-8 - "The Lord will keep you from all harm- he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch your coming and going both now and forevermore." You will not find a friend who is there for you more than your Creator. Take hold of His promise as though you are taking hold of his hand. Open the door and live your life without fear.
