Drowning

Sixteen-year-old Mark did not know he would become a hero that day. It started with an early morning swim. Something caught his attention. Fifteen yards ahead a guy was waving his arms and opening his mouth like a fish out of water. Next thing Mark knew the man bobbed under water. That's when the adrenaline rush kicked in spurring Mark through the water like a torpedo. Diving down he felt the man and then pulled him up to the surface. With a great gasp the man sucked in air but then turned on Mark pulling and clawing at him. Mark went under swallowing a mouthful of water. In a flash of desperation Mark's training from the swim team popped into his head. This time he came up from behind the man grabbing him under the armpit and lifting his chin while towing him to shallow water. Someone nearby had called 911 bringing an ambulance within minutes. It was a close one for both swimmers.

What a strange situation Mark found himself in. He was trying to save the man that was attacking him! It is a well-known fact that a drowning victim will often attack their rescuer given the opportunity. That is why if possible it is best to get the attention of a lifeguard if you see someone drowning. A lifeguard is trained to approach the drowning person in a way that will not lead to a double drowning.
Thankfully there is a happy ending. Mark knew enough from swim team to change his method and become a hero.

Have you ever felt like you were drowning? You just can't take one more thing going wrong, one more angry look from your parents or one more let down by your friends. Could it be that your strength is failing and you are slipping below the surface of hope?

But there is hope. Lot's of it. God has so many messages of hope for you in His Word. He put them there so you would know He does care about your life. When you start to think otherwise, you are a drowning victim attacking your rescuer. It happens. It's a fact.

It's also a fact that God is able to save you despite your attacks of doubt, disappointment and failing strength. So take a breath and tread some water. While you're in heaven's “waiting room” pick up one of God's books like Psalms. Start reading and start believing no matter how you feel then before you can say “land ahoy” God will have you back on the dry land of faith.

(Check it out : Isaiah 59:1 ; Psalm 130; Matthew 19:26)
