denise rosiér http://www.deniserosier.com (Also listen to Denise on mp3.com) Denise Rosiér has said, "When I was 12, I remember asking God 'just let me sing well enough so the woman standing in front of me [in church] won't keep turning around every time we sing'.". I think God had a sense of humor with His answer. Now Denise sings so well that I'm sure everyone turns around when she sings. Produced by her husband Keith Rosiér, Only A Whisper Away is Denise's debut release. She is joined on this album by many noted musicians, singers, and engineers; including players from the recording bands of Bruce Hornsby, Leonard Cohen, David Foster, Jennifer Warnes, and Randy Newman. Denise gives a very soulful vocal performance. She is equally comfortable on ballads and rockers. After a few listens, I tend to prefer her rockier songs. The production on this CD is superb and the musicians display great talent. Denise's singing will both bring down the house and melt your heart. Denise was born in Japan but moved to southern California when she was a child. She now lives in Irvine, California with her husband Keith and their daughter Madeleine. Only A Whisper Away- The title track is a great pop song showing that God is "only a whisper away." Written by Carolyn Arends and Leonard Ahlstrom, this song could also fit easily in the mainstream market. A great way to start the CD. Going Home- Written by David Meece and Mike Hudson and originally on Meece's CD Once in a Lifetime, this track is a great reminder of where our true home is. I love the line "Lord someday I'm going home to a place where I know I belong." I really like the feel of this song. The Alchemy of Love- It's only God's love that can change us. This track is a gorgeous power ballad. The Color of Grace- This is an upbeat pop/rock song written by Carolyn Arends, Lynn McCain and Laurie Webb. This is one of my favorites on the CD. I really like the guitar work by Ron Finn and Denise's voice is perfect for this song. That's the Day- Our suffering on earth can seem so hard but when we reach heaven God will will wipe away our tears. Denise sings about that day on this beautiful piano ballad. Waiting- Awesome upbeat song showing us that waiting isn't always wasting precious time. One of the shorter songs on the CD but perfect radio-length. What in the World- This track was written by Carolyn Arends and Connie Harrington. I'm getting the feeling that Denise really likes Carolyn Arends. Denise's voice is again perfect for a rocker like this. Out in the Storm- Storms can be scary but this song reminds us that God will never let us go out in the storm alone. Ron Finn's guitar work is again excellent. Denise's voice is so comforting on this track. The Fullness of Time- This is a great pop song. It's only in the "fullness of time" that all things will be made clear. The Wonder of it All- One of the most beautiful songs on the CD, this piano ballad presents an awesome picture of the wonders of God. I could listen to Denise sing this song over and over again. Wonderful. The CD ends with a short instrumental reprise of That's the Day This is an excellent CD that will have you wanting more. - Jason Mitchener |
