jilleen http://www.jilleen.com (Also listen to Jilleen on mp3.com) Jilleen's debut CD "One King, Two Crowns" is the first Christian CD I've come across that includes a couple songs with Japanese lyrics. "He is Exalted" alternates between English and Japanese, while there are both English and Japanese versions of "Give Me Jesus". Jilleen is the spokesperson for Life Ministries, an evangelical mission organization that sends career missionaries, interns and summer mission teams to Japan to share the Gospel. In spring 2001, Jilleen will travel to Japan to perform a ten-day concert tour throughout the nation. Jilleen is a member and soloist of the Vocal Worship Ministry at Saddleback Church in Mission Viejo, California. She also enjoys leading sing-alongs for senior citizens in residential homes and shut-ins throughout Orange County, California. I'm very impressed with Jilleen's CD. The first time I popped it in my CD player, I listened to it nonstop three times as I worked at my computer. Jilleen's voice has a very gentle, comforting quality that made me want to keep listening. The song choices on the CD are excellent. I really enjoyed hearing God's praises in another language on "He is Exalted" and "Give Me Jesus". I love the unique arrangement on "Amazing Grace". One King, Two Crowns - The title track is a very powerful song about the two crowns Jesus wore, the crown of glory and the crown of pain. I think the amazing paradox of this song and Jilleen’s gorgeous voice will draw the listener into hearing more. I'm Speechless - This is the most musically upbeat track on the CD. The lyrics show that God's love can leave us speechless. Jilleen really belts it out with power on this one. I love the chorus. Heal Me - A beautiful power ballad about our need for healing from God. I can listen to this song over and over again with Jilleen's comforting voice, which has a healing quality in itself. Amazing Grace - An old standard with a unique arrangement. This hymn has always been a favorite of mine but I've never heard it quite like this. The Celtic feel gives this song an excellent touch. He Is Exalted / Syuo Homeyo Takarakani - Jilleen does an excellent job with this popular worship song by Twila Paris. On Jilleen's version, the lyrics alternate beautifully between English and Japanese. What a reminder to us that those from many nations will be praising God in heaven. Artist of My Soul - Every time I see a sunset with its gorgeous colors, I know that God is an artist. Of course, the most awesome artistry he can do is in the human soul that is surrendered to Him. One thing I like about this song is that it shows God is expert in many art forms. Jilleen hits some awesome high notes on this track. A true professional. My Lips Will Praise You - A beautifully peaceful worship song by Twila Paris. I’m sure God is pleased to hear Jilleen worship Him with this song. I know I am. Give Me Jesus - Jilleen uses Fernando Ortega’s arrangement on this traditional African American song. You can really hear Jilleen’s passion for Jesus on this track. One of my favorites on this CD. Iesuo Kudasai - The last track on the CD is a ‘bonus track’. “Iesuo Kudasai” is a Japanese version of “Give Me Jesus”. This is no less beautiful than the English version. When Jilleen ministers in Japan, I’m sure this song will bless many. With the Japanese Christians, I say, “Iesuo kudasai.” Well, I’m going to go listen to this CD again. Anyone know how many plays it takes to wear out a CD? - Jason Mitchener |
