A JOURNEY THROUGH THE OLYMPIC GAMES: http://web54.sd54.k12.il.us/vrkit/supplements/sixth/olympics/student.htm http://web54.sd54.k12.il.us/vrkit/supplements/sixth/olympics/default.htm Students will choose teams in this three week webquest. One group will travel back in time to investigate both Ancient Greek culture and the Ancient Olympic Games; the second group will focus on Salt Lake 2002, while the last group will research future plans for the Olympics. Teams must create a travelog to cite their research, and create a multimedia presentation for their class. SALT LAKE CITY OLYMPIC TREASURE HUNT: http://www2.lhric.org/pocantico/olympics/saltlake.htm How much does it cost to attend the Olympic medal ceremony? What are the mascots for Salt Lake City? And how long is the Olympic torch? After answering the questions on the 2002 Olympic Games on this treasure hunt, let student teams use the accompanying sites to create their own questions for classmates. GAMES OF THE ANCIENT OLYMPICS: http://www.sinc.sunysb.edu/Class/est57280/kmeehan/webquest.htm Working in teams, students will create a chart depicting the events of the Ancient Olympic games. They will also create a 10 minute presentation for the class to showcase and share their research. (N.B. Use the internet resources listed above; many of the links provided here are no longer working.) OLYMPIC GOLD: http://www.arlington.k12.va.us/schools/barrett/webquest/olympic/index.html Taking a different approach, students must devise a fitness and nutrition regimen to compete as athletes in upcoming Olympic Games (this webquest was addressed to the 2000 Olympic games and therefore to the summer Olympics and its corresponding sports events--adapt the webquest accordingly for the Winter Olympics--see resources, above). Both journals and written essays are required. ANCIENT OLYMPIC TREASURE HUNT: http://www2.lhric.org/pocantico/olympics/ancienthunt.htm Tighten your togas and head on in to this webquest. SAVING THE OLYMPICS: http://curry.edschool.virginia.edu/go/edis771/spring99webquests/prof/paubrimoench/home.htm/ How similar are modern Olympics to the ancient version of the games? It's up to your stuents to do the research and provide the comparisons.
