The GO Zone:The Top Ten Tools for Evangelism (Part One) by Dave Weiss (Dave's bio) Send this page to a friend Today we are going to take a look at some tools that are useful, helpful and yes vital to spreading the Gospel and making disciples for Christ. The goal in this is to show you that in a church that believes in the priesthood of all believers, everyone of us is equipped to share the Gospel. As you use these tools keep in mind that God works in His own timing. Just because you don't see immediate results doesn't mean nothing's happening. 1. Your story Few things are more important in sharing the Gospel and evangelism than your story. How has Jesus impacted your life? How has He blessed you? How has He changed you? People need to see that you are not some holier-than thou hypocrite, but rather a person just like them whose life has been touched by an awesome God. When you tell your story, be real. No need to make things up, God will not honor a lie and the last thing people need is someone who reports to follow the Truth, but resorts to the tactics of the father of lies. The truth that set you free will work for them as well. 2. Prayer This probably should have been number one, as the first step to any evangelism is prayer. Ask God to open doors for evangelism. Ask God to give you the right words to say. Ask God for strength and boldness and wisdom as you share Him. Ask Him to go with you as you go. This doesn't have to be a long drawn out prayer, sometimes the doors open quickly and you have to throw up the quick silent prayer. I believe God is OK with this as he tells us to pray without ceasing. Just, whatever you do, pray. 3. The Bible This one also goes without saying. You need to have the Word of God if you want to really reach people with the truth of the Gospel. Does this mean you have to carry the Bible with you at all times? Well, yes and no. Sometimes it is impossible to carry a physical Bible with you, but we should always carry the Word with us in our hearts and in our minds. Memorize scripture. Have a life verse that speaks to a person's need. The idea is not to beat someone over the head with the Bible but to speak it from the heart when God opens the door. 4. Service Meeting people's needs is a great way to share the Gospel. A person with a spiritual need will be much more apt to listen to someone who has just helped them meet a physical need. Look for opportunities to serve others as an opening for evangelism. 5. Christian music Almost everyone loves music. Give them a CD with a positive message and give them a chance to listen to it. Then discuss the disc and watch God open the door. Music is a great tool for connecting with people. Use this gift and share it to the glory of God. Well that's the first five, tune in next time for five more. While numbers 6-10 are equal to or better than some of the ones listed above, you have enough right here to get you started. So what are you waiting for? GO!
