Dave Weiss The GO Zone:
Why Evangelism?

The best reference I can give is John 14:6, "Jesus answered, 'I am the way the truth and the life, no man comes to the father except through me.'" I read that as Jesus is the only way to heaven. To my mind this is the message that all Christians must share. We need to follow Jesus' admonition to "speak the truth in love" and trust His Holy Spirit to work on people's hearts. In my reading there is only one true religion, Christianity, I know some may see this as closed minded but I didn't set the standard. It's God's standard.

Many people think that a good person should get into heaven. We leave these people with an impossible standard and in my opinion a lack of hope. What is good enough? We know we all sin, so when is the last straw? When have we done one wrong thing too many? Jesus took away any doubt. He set the standard, perfection. We all fall short of perfection, but because of His death on the cross, we can be made perfect through His blood. The doubt is taken away, when we live for Him.

Some argue that if someone has never heard the Gospel or follows another religion that they will be judged by their own standard. I haven't really found scripture on this though I will be the first to admit, I have much to learn. (If someone has a scripture on this, let me know). This is also a hopeless situation, though. Do you always live up to your own standards? I can assure you that I don't, as hard as I try. This is another reason I need Jesus. What are you doing about evangelism today? My concern is that we aren't doing enough. The church has no problem going out and making sure that a person has food or clothing or shelter but we seem to shrink away from making sure that a person's eternal home is secure. This in the long run is everyone's greatest need. Who do you need to talk to today? Well, don't just sit there, GO!
