Face to Face: God Is Master by J. Ross Greer of The Place of Grace Ministries (about the ministry) [Note: If you'd like to read more from J. Ross Greer, be sure to subscribe to his daily e-mail list A Word For The Church.] 1After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Do not fear, Abram, I am a shield to you; Your reward shall be very great." 2Abram said, "O Lord GOD, what will You give me, since I am childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?" 3And Abram said, "Since You have given no offspring to me, one born in my house is my heir." 4Then behold, the word of the LORD came to him, saying, "This man will not be your heir; but one who will come forth from your own body, he shall be your heir." 5And He took him outside and said, "Now look toward the heavens, and count the stars, if you are able to count them." And He said to him, "So shall your descendants be." 6Then he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness. Verse two of today's text reveals God's name of Adonai. God is the Lord and Master of our lives. Or, is He? We may not have difficulty with a God who controls the universe and world events. However, our flesh tends to rebel against someone controlling us. Nevertheless, if God is truly our Lord, then He must reign over our lives. Have we truly yielded our lives to His control? Do we seek His counsel and ask for His wisdom when face with daily decisions? Or, do we rely upon common worldly sense? Notice Abram's attitude. In using the name, Adonai, Abram recognized God's right to reign and rule his life and to provide whatever heir He desired. In looking at his circumstances from a worldly viewpoint, Abram was even willing to accept Eliezer as his heir, if that is what His Master deemed best. However, God had a much greater plan in mind for him. What is God's plan for your life? What do you desire from the hand of your Lord? Note His statement in Jeremiah 32:27. "Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?" Are you settling for much less than He desires? Submit yourself to God as your Lord and Master, and He will accomplish great things in and through you for His glory.
