Luke 5:15 – 16 (NASB)

15But the news about Him was spreading even farther, and large crowds were gathering to hear Him and to be healed of their sicknesses. 16But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray.

******

What do we do when we are overwhelmed with the work that is set before us?

******

Some of us devote time to planning. We focus our efforts on streamlining our schedule and seeking greater efficiency. We determine that we are behind because somehow we have not properly budgeted our time.

******

Others of us forget planning, and dive into the work. Whatever days and hours are necessary are committed to the task. Our families will just have to understand. Deadlines do not go away. Therefore, we are forced to sacrifice the important on the altar of the temporary crisis.

******

Still others of us just complain. We do not have enough help. Management should not expect such a commitment from us. How can any one person be expected to accomplish so much in such a short time frame?

******

Have we ever thought to get alone and pray? What was facing Jesus in our text? He had disciples following Him who needed mentoring. He had a growing group of seekers who needed physical and spiritual healing. Who was there to share the load? To whom could He pass the ball? It was all on Jesus, and His response was to leave it all and commune with the Father.

******

What would we gain if shut our office door or took a walk to pray? Grace. Peace. Wisdom. Direction. Encouragement. Vision. God's answer to our dilemma. If God cares enough to concern Himself with the needs of a sparrow, then we can be assured that He is just waiting on us to bring our every need to His throne. He wants to strengthen us, to give us His wisdom, and to direct our steps so that our response to the crisis at hand will bring Him glory. Jesus prayed when the pressure was on. So should we.

About The Place of Grace Ministries: In 1992, God interrupted the well-organized life of J. Ross Greer through a study called "Experiencing God". This encounter birthed a passionate vision for local churches that has become The Place of Grace Ministries. Through teaching, music, and writing, we call believers to return to the basic principles of God's Word and participate in the work of God.
