Face to Face:Works by J. Ross Greer of The Place of Grace Ministries (about the ministry) [Note: If you'd like to read more from J. Ross Greer, be sure to subscribe to his daily e-mail list A Word For The Church.] 36But the testimony which I have is greater than the testimony of John; for the works which the Father has given Me to accomplishthe very works that I dotestify about Me, that the Father has sent Me. The works that Jesus did revealed that the Father had sent Him. What do our works reveal about us to a watching world? There is, of course, our work or vocation. When our co-workers or management view how we conduct ourselves at our place of employment, do they see God? It is not that we always walk around with a holier-than-thou kind of attitude. It is, though, that we recognize that it is God who has given us this opportunity to serve Him, and that He has placed us there to do His bidding. Work is about far more than a title and a paycheck. God does give us work so that He might meet our needs through it. However, God's higher goal is that we might influence our fellow employees and employer for His Kingdom. Wherever God places us, it is so that we would serve Him and reach others. It is never about climbing the corporate ladder or amassing wealth and possessions. In addition, there is our family. Does our relationship with our wife and children reveal God to those who know us? Do they see His unconditional love flowing through our relationships? When difficulties or trials interrupt our family's way of life, do we reflect to others that our Father is still in control? What about our recreation? Do we spend so much time pursuing our hobbies that people know more about our extracurricular activities than they do about our relationship with God? While it is clear that Jesus took time to rest from His activities, it is also obvious that He never became consumed by anything other than pleasing His Father. Can we say the same? The goal is that we become like Jesus that whether we are at home, work, or play, our attitudes and actions will reflect that He lives within us and the God is truly our Father.
