Face to Face:Following by J. Ross Greer of The Place of Grace Ministries (about the ministry) [Note: If you'd like to read more from J. Ross Greer, be sure to subscribe to his daily e-mail list A Word For The Church.] 19Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner. How do you decide what to do each day? Do you consult your Day Timer or Palm Pilot? Do you bring up Microsoft Outlook to see what tasks are to be accomplished? While these are helpful tools in organizing our lives, should we not consult the Father first? Jesus had a simple approach to His daily activities. Whatever He saw His Father doing, wherever He saw Him at work, that is where Jesus went and what He did. That is a true kingdom mentality. How did Jesus recognize the work of His Father, and therefore, how can we know the work in which we are to participate? Jesus had an intimate relationship with His Father, and therefore, knew His plans and purposes. We have God's revealed will in His Word, and we have the indwelling Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth. Therefore, we too can know and do the Father's will. What is the Father doing and how can we be involved in His work? First and foremost, He is reconciling individuals unto Himself. Wherever God has placed, there are people who need salvation. We cannot save them, but we can share with them our own salvation story and the truth of God's Word that points them to the Savior who alone can bring them into an eternal relationship with His Father. Our Father is also strengthening and growing His children. We can be disciplers and encouragers to assist each other in becoming all that God would have us to be. We can share our successes and failures with younger believers to help them follow the leading of the Spirit and avoid the ways of the flesh. We certainly can pray for one another that we would walk in a manner worthy of our calling. God is at work all around us, accomplishing His purposes in our world. He is not hiding Himself. To see what God is doing, we need to open our spiritual eyes and focus upon people and not things. That is what Jesus did.
