Face to Face:Priority by J. Ross Greer of The Place of Grace Ministries (about the ministry) [Note: If you'd like to read more from J. Ross Greer, be sure to subscribe to his daily e-mail list A Word For The Church.] 35Do you not say, 'There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest'? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest. What is the most important matter in your life? Is it your family, career, or some recreational activity? In what endeavor do you spend the most time and money? For Jesus, doing the will of His Father was what consumed His life. It was His only priority. How does that mentality translate into to our breakneck, fast-paced lifestyle? Are we to sell all we have and all become traveling evangelists? While that may be God's will for some, there are still other ways for each of us to make the will of God our only priority. It begins with our mindset. We must be single-minded in our approach to our earthly life. God's will must be accomplished in our lives as it is in Heaven. Where we go to school, what we choose as a career, where we choose to work, the person we choose as our life partner, the neighborhood in which we live, the automobile we drive all must be viewed as decisions that must be brought into alignment with God's overall purpose for our lives. What is God's central purpose for our lives? That we would be transformed into the image of Christ, and thus, bring Him glory. If we are living according to the example that the Son of God left us, what will be our main concern? That people would enter into an eternal relationship with the Savior of the world. Therefore, the salary and benefits should not be our concern in any job we seek. Our primary focus should be upon how we can demonstrate the love of Christ to our co-workers. We should be seeking the Spirit's leading as to where He would have serve our King. It also should not be our focus to live in exclusive neighborhoods or to drive impressive vehicles. We are not to be defined or controlled by our possessions. God provides us with financial resources so that we might further the work of His kingdom (which includes our needs). The more God provides the greater investment we can make in spreading the Gospel. Stop thinking tithe. Focus upon life-long priority knowing and doing God's will.
