Face to Face:Urgency by J. Ross Greer of The Place of Grace Ministries (about the ministry) [Note: If you'd like to read more from J. Ross Greer, be sure to subscribe to his daily e-mail list A Word For The Church.] 35Do you not say, 'There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest'? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest. Is there anything in your life that you feel an urgency to accomplish? Perhaps you are driving yourself to achieve some position. Then again, you may feel possessed to retire at an early age or to amass a certain amount of money and worldly trinkets to ensure your security. The problem with the pursuit of possessions is that we become possessed by them. The more we have, the more we want, and the more time we must to devote to maintaining what we have. No matter how high we climb on the corporate ladder, it never satisfies. John Rockefeller was asked how much money was enough, and he responded with one dollar more. Christ had a drive to accomplish, but it was focused upon drawing people into the Kingdom. His vision was the souls of men. Our vision, unfortunately, is aimed at building our individual earthly kingdoms, that which will all be consumed when God destroys this earth. We need not have an urgency to gain and to achieve the things of this world, but rather to accomplish that which cooperates with the work of God on earth. When Jesus spoke the Great Commission in Matthew 28, He told us what God's mission is among us to increase His family to the glory of His grace. We need spiritual vision to see our world as Jesus sees it. We need to see our neighbors and co-workers as those who need to become acquainted with the Savior. Our lives are to reflect the attitudes and actions of Christ. Do they see Jesus in our actions? Do they hear Jesus in our words? If Jesus returned for His church today, who do you know that will be left behind to face eternal separation from God? We remain here now to point them to the cross. Their eternal destiny is the source of our urgency. This brief moment in time is all we are guaranteed to reach them. Tomorrow may never come. NOW is time to tell them about Jesus.
