Face to Face:Fear by J. Ross Greer of The Place of Grace Ministries (about the ministry) [Note: If you'd like to read more from J. Ross Greer, be sure to subscribe to his daily e-mail list A Word For The Church.] 25:12Who is the man who fears the LORD? He will instruct him in the way he should choose. 13His soul will abide in prosperity, And his descendants will inherit the land. 14The secret of the LORD is for those who fear Him, And He will make them know His covenant. The Word of God contains many verses that speak about the fear of God. Are we to be terrorized by the Father who loves us? Rather, we are to recognize the awesome and holy nature of the One who spoke all of creation into existence. Without question, God is our Father, and through Jesus Christ, we have an intimate relationship with Him. However, God has the right to expect our complete devotion and obedience because of who He is. Fear does not come without its benefits. When we properly reverence the Father, He will teach how to make right choices. Who among us could not benefit from that kind of instruction? How many wrong decisions and wrong paths could we have avoided if we would have remained in intimate connection with our omniscient God? Would we describe our souls as prosperous or poverty-stricken? Have we invested our time and energy into that which will feed or starve our souls? We may have healthy bank accounts and retirement funds, our stock portfolios may be rock solid, and our houses and cars may be beyond compare, but of what value will any of that be when we account for how we valued eternal matters? For those who awe the LORD, there is intimacy. The "secret" is not knowing some special truth, but is experiencing an intimate relationship. Jesus called it abiding. Why do we forfeit such a reality by choosing to live as we please rather than as God has commanded? What is His covenant? Luke 22:20 reveals that "This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood". Those who fear the LORD have a greater appreciation for His unconditional love demonstrated at Calvary. The Father has freed us and enabled us to be His obedient servants. God is so worthy of our reverence!
