Psalm 1: 1 - 3 (NASB)

1 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3 He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.

*******

God has established a relationship with us. He pursues us in His quest to make us holy. He wants us to know the blessing of an intimate relationship with Him. What is our part according to this Psalm?

*******

First, we must reject worldly wisdom. To adopt the mindset of this world will only lead us to walk in sinful practices. The ultimate end of such a lifestyle is to join the ranks of those who scoff at Christianity. Definitely, no true believer would desire to follow this path. How often, though, do we find ourselves operating according to worldly principles rather than the wisdom of the Word of God?

*******

Next, we must delight in God's Word. Do we desire and treasure it? Can we say with the Psalmist (119:97) "O how I love Thy law!"? Is time in the Scriptures even on our list of daily priorities? Are we taking the time necessary to feed our souls?

*******

Finally, there is meditation upon God's Word. For many of us, we relate meditation to something mystical. However, we do not need to contemplate our navel to meditate upon the Scriptures. We, obviously, must read it. We must gain an understanding of it in its context. We, then, are to determine its application to our conduct.

*******

As we read and think upon the passages of the Bible, we must search for insight into the character of God. This will enhance our worship of Him. We, also, must be careful to note instructions and commands. God wants us to conform our lives to His truth.

*******

Meditating upon and applying the Word of God will bring us into a mature walk with Christ and grant us true success in all that we do, because our lives are conducted according to Godly wisdom and Biblical principles.

About The Place of Grace Ministries: In 1992, God interrupted the well-organized life of J. Ross Greer through a study called "Experiencing God". This encounter birthed a passionate vision for local churches that has become The Place of Grace Ministries. Through teaching, music, and writing, we call believers to return to the basic principles of God's Word and participate in the work of God.
