Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
John 6:2829
Look at almost every religion and you will notice one similarity ... people striving to reach God through their own efforts. True Christianity is radically different. True Christianity teaches that man can do nothing to reach God so God in His infinite love reached down to us. Christ took on the form of man and walked this earth as a man. He then made the ultimate sacrifice by dying on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. hhHe did for us what we could never do for ourselves.
Imagine if I was to roll my wheelchair up to a building that had a flight of stairs as the only way to enter. Nothing I could do on my own would enable me to enter the building. I could push with all my strength but I'd still be stuck at the bottom. I could try to be a good person, but I'd still be stuck at the bottom. The only way I could enter that building is to have several strong men carry me and my wheelchair up the steps. The same is true with our efforts to reach God. We can push with all our strength. We can try to be a good person. But our efforts will get us nowhere. We need Christ to carry us to God.
Now imagine if several strong men did indeed carry me and my wheelchair up a flight of steps. How foolish it would be for me to not thank them and find some way to serve them in return. With all God has done for us, how foolish it would be for us not to serve Him with all that lies within us. We can thank Him for giving us love by giving Him our lives, living each day as a glory to His name.
