The Tree by Charles Pulsipher (Charles' bio) Send this page to a friend Look in your geography books and find Utah, USA and there you will find Bryce Canyon National Park. It is one of the natural wonders of the state, a breathtaking sculpture by Mother Nature and not like anything else we had ever seen in our travels. There laying before us was a huge multicolored sandstone landscape of many acres. It was carved by wind and water - for untold centuries. Columns, gullies, crevices and many sights to make one wonder how long it took to come to this point. The ranger guide showed us through the many mazes, named the pillars, and much more to our amazement. Then we came to a pine tree. He asked us all to guess the age of this Bristle Cone pine. Seeing that the tree was about nine inches in diameter, I guessed maybe 50 years. Others made wild guesses as well. Then the guide surprised us by revealing the age of the pine we saw there. It was just getting started when Christ was born! Yet, there in a spot where all you could see was sandstone, there was no earth, no river, no sign of anything that I thought was needed to sustain life. Then he told us that there was much that we could not see. This healthy specimen had found a source of water and nutrients far below, and it thrived. Then it came to me that the Psalmist in Ch. 1 V 3 stated that the believer would be like a tree planted by the water. Now I had new understanding. I am often amazed by people who are apparently stranded by circumstances of poverty, poor health, crippled by disease and age that have a song in their heart, for it is not how the circumstances appear, but the fact that they have a deep seated faith that has tapped the source of victorious living. Their spirit is fresh. Their attitude is positive and their witness is beyond compare. History is full of Bristle cone Pines that have sustained, spiritually prospered and became firmly entrenched in their faith because they had found the living water that Jesus spoke about to the Samaritan woman at the well. In all my years of public service, that one thing is constant: No matter the circumstances, those who have come to Christ, placed their faith in Him, have a firm and abiding grasp that cannot be shaken, for their faith is founded in the life giving water of a loving God. Love ya, Charles. After tho't: A lasting and beautiful life is one that has found the source of life giving water.
