The Caped Defender: The Caped Defender in... The Ace of the Skies and the Guardian Eagle by The Caped Defender (The Caped Defender's bio) Send this page to a friend My greatest fear in life (besides another Nicholas Sparks book) is heights. [EDITORIAL SIDE NOTE: With a shrug I have to say, I'm with him on this one.] About three months ago, the Ace of Skies (note his name is not the ACE OF LAND AND GROUND!!) takes me to California to visit my parents. As we fly, I spend most of the trip upchucking, retching, and screaming like a woman. Heaven forbid I fly in a jet! He carries me across country! When I made it to California, I spend the better part of two days, clutching their sofa. "Capey, would you like to go to Disneyland?" my mother, the Matron Defender, asks. "No!" I bark. "Wanna go out for a pizza?" my dad, the Silver Defender, would ask. "No! I am staying right here. The next person who asks me to move from this couch will have me sinking my teeth into their kneecaps!" [EDITORIAL SIDE NOTE: We do not advocate the biting of one's parents in the kneecaps.] What can I say? The adrenaline hadn't worn off. Anyway, on our way to California, we stop to visit our mutual friend, the Guardian Eagle. He gives us a tour of his city, San Keegan, Idaho, also known as the "blue jewel of the Northwest." Ever wonder why they call it that? Neither do I. While we stand on the top of the Galactic Towers building, we look out over the city. "There was a teenager out fishing in the middle of the Denisha River," the Guardian Eagle says pointing to the body of water about a half mile away. "His little row boat springs a leak and he starts sinking." "So he starts bailing the water," the Eagle says with a chuckle making the bailing motions. "I go down and carry him to land and go back for his boat. " 'Thanks,' he says to me. I turn my head for a minute. 'You should be wearin' a life jack - ....' I turn my head back, and he's gone." "That's kinda rude," the Ace of Skies says. "Well what can you do?" the Eagle shrugs. I laugh. "I say take your services to a city that will respect you - like Baghdad." The Guardian Eagle just smirks. "Guys, day after day, I fly in and fly out rescuing the citizens of San Keegan," he says. "After awhile I tend to feel lonely." "Lonely?" I ask. "Yeah." The Guardian Eagle takes off his mask. "I want people to treat me like a person. I'm not some impersonal force. We weren't built to be taken for granted." He looks at me, and his is face clearly of Asian origin. "Oh wow," I say. I look over at the Ace of Skies as he giggles at me. The Guardian Eagle laughs. "What? An Oriental looking person can't be an American hero?" I respond in my forthright honest way. "Well um yeah y'see but I ." He chuckles and he waves off my ignorance. "Defender, my name is Wong," he says. "My family came to the United States from China a hundred years ago. Sure I'm proud of my Chinese heritage, but I'm American through and through." "Interesting," I say. "How did you get the super powers the strength flight and so forth ?" He stands up and puts on his mask. "That, my caped friend, is for another day." He looks over the city. "Well, I need to get home," he smiles. "You comin' with me?" the Ace of Skies asks. "Sure," I say. "Can I scream like a woman again?" He sighs then laughs. I assure you, I bellow like a banshee the whole ride. In a lot of ways God is like the Guardian Eagle. People view Him as this Awesome Cosmic Shaper (which He is) that is meant to get us out of trouble. Yes, He created the galaxies, but He longs for us to know Him intimately. Here is what He says about a wayward Israel in Jeremiah 24:7. This can apply to us as well. "They will be my people, and I will be their God, for they will return to me with all their heart." Here's the funny thing, He makes this as plain as day, but people still feel the need to complicate Him. Some even say faith in "faith" is okay, ignoring a specific god or goddess. I'm still scratching my head on that one. However, you scratch your head enough times, you end up with a nice big bald spot. Just ask Vice President Dick Cheney (whom the Caped Defender voted for in 2000 with great pride). [EDITORIAL SIDE NOTE: We do not support one political party over another. You can thank Ross Perot for our a-political stance.] Well, that's all for this time. Do your self a favor, look up to Him. Ask Him what you can do to know Him more deeply. And when you're looking up, and you hear a loud screaming noise across the sky, it's probably me.
