Allison Gappa Bottke was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, coming of age during the 70's when at age 15 she ran away from home and married a young man whose abuse nearly ended her life. Divorced and a mother at the age of sixteen, her indefatigable spirit saw her through three decades of turmoil and addiction before she came to know the Lord. When Allison's life changed, it wasn't merely another bend in the journey. It was a brake-locking, tire-screaming U-Turn in the middle of a fast moving highway in order to head in a completely opposite direction.
A few years ago, Allison realized that her story, while extraordinary and one-of-a-kind, was not the only U-Turn story out there. Certainly God moved in others' lives the way He did in hers. When Allison began collecting U-Turn stories, this book was born.
In this book you will find chapters on God's Love, Angels Among Us, Grace, Prayer, and Faith and Forgiveness. You will also find renewed assurance and hope that with God all things truly are possible. Within these pages you will find such touching stories as the one about Brian, the special education student who finds the love he had searched for his entire life. Or the story of an African Christmas by the survivor of a war that wiped out his village and most of his family. You will be inspired by the account of Ken who understood what the word commitment meant and the dangers he faced by fulfilling his commitment to the Indians in the Four Corners area. You will be encouraged by the prayer of a young boy and God's answer to that prayer in spite of his own mother's unbelief. You can also see God's hand in the story written by a Gilbert, AZ woman, Rose Plihcik, who shares about a fear that controlled her life and how God helped her to overcome.
God allows U-Turns was first announced on the World Wide Web in February 2000. The Lord used this avenue of communication to reach across all borders, geographic as well as political, denominational and social. Stories began to come in through the web site, first by the dozens, then the hundreds and now by the thousands. This project encompasses a book series, a non-profit Foundation, a complete line of logo gift merchandise and other ventures currently under development. A second U-Turn book is due out at the end of this year.
