I Desire Mercy Sharon West Winepress Publishing Paperback. 110 pages. Review by Jason Mitchener (Read Jason's bio) Send this page to a friend I used to always love mysteries with amateur sleuths like the Hardy Boys. I think people enjoy these amateur sleuth mysteries because they can put themselves in the main character's shoes and easily picture themselves solving the mystery. Sharon West gives us another amateur sleuth to love in "I Desire Mercy", the first in her series of Mulberry House books. The sleuth is Marietta Mulberry, a quiet librarian in Rock Landing, Ohio, who finds herself the victim of downsizing. Instead of looking for other work, she uses her inheritance to start a foundation called Operation WILL to help others in need. Within days of leaving her job, she's thrust into the mystery of the Dragon's Tail. What makes Marietta Mulberry different from sleuths in other books is that she's an unabashed Christian. Her Christian values are clear throughout the book without overpowering the story. Thankfully, the author doesn't portray Marietta as a super Christian. She has her faults like the rest of us. But she is a Christian we can admire. A big draw for many mysteries is the secondary characters. Sherlock Holmes would never have been the same without Dr. Watson. Marietta's sidekick is her young personal secretary Briana Bishop. Briana adds a wonderful element to the story with her zest for adventure. Other characters include Marietta's housekeeper Maddie, the gardener Philip and Pastor Stu. The author develops all the characters well and they each add a delightful depth to the story. If the first book of the Mulberry House series is representative of the ones to follow, I can't wait for the next installment.
