Vital Signs Third Book in The Baxter Series Kathy Herman Multnomah Publishers Inc. Paperback. 330 pages. ISBN: 1590520408 Review by Louise Bergmann DuMont (Read Louise's bio) In Vital Signs, a deadly virus sweeps into the town of Baxter and two hundred citizens are quarantined to avoid its spread. But the virus is not the town's only problem. Fear quickly spawns violence in those attempting to protect themselves from infection When Jennifer finds herself separated from her newborn twins immediately after their birth, this new Christian and single mother has more than her share of concerns. Dennis the father, is an insecure, selfish and angry young man who seems to want nothing to do with the boys. Only God's intervention though the unlikely conduit of a gentle senior citizen can soften the wounded heart of this young man Kathy Herman's third book in the Baxter Series, goes beyond a sensationalized story of our medical profession on the front lines of disaster. It takes the reader into the personal anxieties and suspicions of the human mind. The author of Vital Signs does not serve up, across the board, happy endings and pat solutions. The book's characters come across as humanly flawed and genuine which adds a nice dimension to the book. Although somewhat predictable this book leaves the reader with a good feeling about its characters. Enough so that I would recommend picking up each of the Baxter books for good reading. Vital Signs, by Kathy Herman, will be released in October, 2002 by Multnomah Publishers. Copyright 2002, Louise Bergmann DuMont. All Rights reserved.
